Just recently picked up 5 ghost shrimp at the store and one looks to be about full grown(an inch and a half) and looks to have a belly full of little black eggs? Are they eggs? And if so, anything i can do to help out with the pregnancy? They are in a 29 gallon with a small school of cardinal tetras(started with 10 and now down to 8) and 3 ADF.

when my ghosts are egged the eggs are green, have never ever seen a baby ghost shrimp since my community eats them so quick.

yeah the closer i look they were all green.

any ideas?

and now that i look i posted this in the wrong section. sorry guys.

yea, i was afraid of that

any ideas to keep the eggs alive? i was thinking about putting the shrimp in a breeder trap? or is that a bad idea?

if possible move the egged parent to another tank, just set up a small 3 gallon or something tank, put some java moss in it, let the shrimp lay the eggs.

smallest tank i have is a 10 gallon, but i just recently set it up for a pair of GBRs that lay eggs every 3 weeks or so. And according to my calendar its been 2 weeks already.

what a dillemma.

I'm not certain but I don't think they'll survive anyway. I think they aren't native to fresh water. I think they need iodine for their exoskeleton too. I'll look up what I can later and let you know. I have a ghost working on her second clutch of eggs and I'm wondering about hatching eggs too.
