ghost shrimp vs RCS - who is bigger?

my fire eel absolutely loves devouring ghost shrimp. I wonder if there is anyway to breed them so I dont have to go to the store and buy a dozen every week.

The Ghost shrimp (palaeomonetes spp.) goes through a planktonic phase immediately after hatching.
They can only be bred successfully in tanks that utilize sponge/other air-driven filtration.

Their larval stages are vary abbreviated (I've read they have one or two free swimming states). They don't require any special feeding, or environmental needs like brackish water to mature. As with any shrimp colony, which ever method of filtration is used, a screen of some kind must be used on the filter intake. Newly hatched shrimp are not able to swim effectively and are frequently killed by water filters.

I use a chunk of canister foam cut down, with a hole for a HOB intake tube. The foam ages nicely and provides more filter surface. I also don't use the brand name filter cartridges. Again, I take foam and cut it so that it fits snugly in the entire housing. A simple weekly rinse, in water taken out of the same tank, keeps the bacteria going, and cleans out most of the junk. I usually replace the foam after a year or so. Extremely cost effective, and shrimp friendly.
