I have these Ghost shrimp I bought a few days ago, but these are different than the ones I already have. These have red sections on their antenna, forelegs and at the base of their tails. Is this normal for them? Pics coming soon.

Mine have those as well. It's normal. :)

Is it also normal for these shrimp to die off like crazy?

Yes ghost shrimp are very poorly handled and considered fish food for many people, others pet shrimp. It's sometimes hard to find some good, hard ghosties that won't die off in a couple days. But don't give up I just love how they swim and do their daily routines.

Few months back I read something about breeding ghost shrimp. Red Banded ones are easily breed in fresh water. Blue banded ones in brackish.

Well the thing is I'm not 100% sure, hope someone tunes in with better info than me.:o

I have the same type of shrimp you described red banded ghost shrimp.

Ghost shrimp are purely freshwater and can be bred in freshwater. Mine have done it with great success.

The colors you get will vary. I have had some with green, yellow, red, and hints of blue on their antenna, legs and body. Some times they even change colors.

I originally had 4 and over a few months all but 1 died off. That one has been living strong for over a year, however. They all had red bands on their antenna and larger... uh... feelers? Arms? What do you even call them? lol
