I've had my eel now for around 8 months and I hand feed him a piece of krill every 2 to 3 days depending if he wants it or not.. He just won't grow... He might have gotten 1 inch longer since I got it... I've seen them triple the size of mine at the LFS.. I figured maybe he wasn't eating enough but he dosn't come back for more after it swallows the piece presented.. Hes so friendly and never bites me and I give him the piece of krill by hand, so I know he eats it..

100g reef aquarium with 79-80 temps, 1.025-6 salinity varying with evap since I top it up every day. 20g sump and around 90-95 lbs of LR.

Try monster fish keepers maybe

What are the rest of your water parameters?

Are you feeding anything else or just krill? I'd say start trying different food options like chopped market shrimp & fish, silversides, etc. The more varied the diet the better, imo

Good luck, they're amazing eels

There have been lots of suggestions that this species is largely predatory on crustaceans. A reasonably varied diet wouldn't hurt, however. If anything, try to vary the types of crustacean meats. That being said, they aren't a particularly large species to begin with (assuming we are talking about Pseudechidna brummeri), so don't expect growth rates on the order of larger eel species.

Yea I used to feed it silverside though it was recommended that I feed him something like krill, I'll see what I can do for other food options.

I almost forgotten what my password was :duh:

First, I don't see where you mention the size of this eel when you bought it and when eels are any number of inches shorter from their normal maximum size, they do grow much slower then. Also, in feeding any marine animal, you need to widen their diet to as many different marine foods, like small pieces of fish, shrimp and squid. But as for silversides, it not something that I would suggest one feeds to their eels.

I guess you got your own answers, that is a very helpful thing that others who might be able to best assist you and you don`t really answer certain questions ask of you. For yes, you test your own water, but let me ask you this, have you ever had any eel before this eel you have now? For as well, if their be any problem in a tank of its water conditions, like low oxygen for one, your eel is at effect of it most due to being low in the tank, and not all eels behave the same way within certain effects due to problems their may be in your tanks water parameters.

If this eel is way smaller then its normal maximum size, and you had this eel already for eight months, it should then had grown much more then just one inch. A heathy nutritional and variety diet plays a great deal in a eels health and growth as well as its tanks water conditions.

I have a book for sale on this exact issue and a great many other knowledgeable things to do with eels, only this book is $200 and I only gotten this book shortly before I had no choice but to call the hobby quits after so many decades of enjoyment. But I found in this book of what I always said and spoken of time and time again, that metal traces in a eels tank will damage any eels normal growth rate and shortly after show ill health as well, but do understand this, an eel will not show ill health as fast as most fish you might keep in a home aquarium, for one day it will start by laying on it sides and then follow up by being on its back, and when this happens, it quick, and a slow death.

Now perhaps after telling you all that, you might tell us exactly all about your tanks setup and full test sets results. What type of skimmer your using, model number and so on. The tanks measurements and how many water pumps and their size models your using for your tanks water currents. Also, do the eel have a lair to totally hide itself from full sight? This happens to be a very important thing in any eels life, and what I mean by from full sight is, that the eel should be in total darkness when in its lair.

Ph 8.3-4, Ammonia 0.5, Nitrite 0, nitrate 1, mag 1200, calc 400-450.

1x korallia 4 behind my rock work, 1x 875gph pump from sump to tank and a 1x 500gph powerhead.. tons of hiding space for the eel, and he is around 16 inches in length, though it is his girth which is really bothering me. The white ribbon eels at the shop were much larger.
