Yes they can get that big and bigger. We have an African lung fish at work in one of our display tanks and he is huge. His name is Larry the lungfish. Really cool to watch them eat.

not only do they get huge, but they live vor a LONG time. the Shedd's got one that is older than the aquarium itself.
