This is a female Orange Swordtail that I put into a tank about 3 years ago. I lost the account soon after but recently reacquired it. She's been without a male for about two years according to the tank owner. I recently found a nice male, red and orange and introduced him two weeks ago. This female is so big that I want some of her fry for something I've been pondering a while now! The pics don't really show it, but she's a solid 4", but really massive! First pic is in the acclimation bucket, in both pics there's a quarter to give some scale. She's in a 5 gal full of Java Moss all by herself waiting to drop!

Wow! You should breed her and see if you can't breed a line of giant swords!

Good luck with her!

She's hit now, and I plan on crossing those fry with a line of Montezuma I was given, and some of the orange ones that my Blue Pearl Swords will hopefully start throwing! I'm looking for a blue fish with orange markings, very large with long tails on the males.

That's a very good frame of reference! She's the size of the biggest Sailfin Molly females.

The blue pearl swords I got in ROAK are pretty big too. Female is 3" or so and the male is over 4" if you count his sword. I didnt think they got that big, but its awesome! If you can make some really big swords with the coloring you're looking for, I think they'd be awesome centerpiece fish for any medium sized tank! Good luck and keep us updated!

My Blue Pearls are about the same size, but the difference between a 3" and a 4" Swordtail is bigger than it sounds. She dwarfs the BP female.

I know my bigger sailfins were thick. Especially when the females got preggo. They looked like fat largemouth bass.
