just about everytime i go into petsmart and look at their glassfish, it appears as though they have calcium on them like you would see on the outside of an aquarium under a bubble bar. The only thing i could think this could be is ich, but i dont see it on any of the other fish in any of the tanks? I saw something about dye causing such white bumps, but these are not dyed, they appear plain glassfish.....

I was just curious as to what it could be

Your first guess was right. It is ich....after working for petsmart for 2 yrs I would see it very often. These fish always came in with it and even after treatment would still be the first to succumb to it again. Not sure why they are so prone to ich but petsmarts glass fish have always had that problem IME

Maybe I was lucky, but the Glass fish I got from PetSmart are some of my oldest fish.

Got them when I was starting out, used them to cycle the first tank (along with Phred the Betta, some Black Veil Tetras and some Neons). All still swimming, eating good and as far as I can tell happy.

Little over a year now; meanwhile some drawf gouramis and many guppies have gone; just can't keep guppies alive...

I remember reading somewhere that white cottony stuff, which I see at stores all over the place, not just petsmart, is kind of like a plague for glassfish. I can't think of it off the top of my head, but a little google could answer the question im sure.
