Glass or arcrylic

I know this has been asked allot. But, what I'd like to know from some of you that have used or have acrylic tanks. Are you glad you got them over glass?

I'm looking at getting a 180gal acrylic tank. Any thought would be great.

I have a 300 acrylic and I would trade it for a 265 glass any day of the week. It distorts view and scratches if you look at it wrong. It's hard to do maintenance because of the tiny holes in the top. The only advantage is that it is light, which only matters when you're moving it, so to me it doesn't even matter.
 
I would go glass, especially on a tank that large. That's a huge investment, and you will be sick when you scratch it.

I have a 5gal acrylic, and I got several scratches on it yesterday just moving the gravel around looking for snails I buried in plant substrate. It takes very little to scratch it. I'll never buy another acrylic tank.
 
I've heard that not only do they scratch, but then the scratches fill up with algae, and there's no way of getting it out of the scratch. Also, just taking the regular algae growth off the walls becomes an ordeal, because you can't use a scraper of any kind (because it will scratch!)
 
when you buy acrylic you investin the whole aclrylic line of products.. the special scrapers and scrubbers, scratch buffers, and other acrylic safe products. the only advantage is it insulates better than glass and is lighter.. other than that its at glass grade or worst...

im still faithfull to glass but will always use acrylic for sumps or hospital tanks
 
I agree with all of them I just bought a 180 glass with two overflows and even though it's heavy I think it will be well worth. MY main concern was scratching it and the clarity I have a 35 gal acrylic freshwater and it has scratches all over it does not look nice.
 
Glass is the best. Acrylic not only scratches easy but i have heard of it even bowing over time. for a 180 gal tank thats going to put alot of stress on acrylic. Hope this helps. If you want more info here is a good site to look at to compare the two options.

Yeah. Glass. 100%. Same reasons as above. I'm actually at work right now and just talking about acrylic added like 3 scratches to my tank.
 
I not had me a arcrylic tank for a long time now and never will have it ever again as you might hear from many in why this is for even I believe it cost less I think, I rather pay more then have something to show for it many years later. So im for glass :thm:
