Glass or plastic between the tank & lights?

Nope it wasn't you Slip sorry guys . I don't know what I was thinking.

No prob bfons, but at this point I am starting to question a top at all if legs are involved. Am I right in assuming this guys?

Thx guys.

Went to Lowe's today and got a peice of glass cut. I feel much better now. I think I'll still order the legs and keep the glass as an extra buffer just in case.

Thanks all,

Bfons

I've heard that putting something between can keep the tank members from getting correct lighting (for a reef) I don't use anything but the evaporation can be a problem...

Glass pretty much has no problem, and most of the lights used for aquariums can not get hot enough to melt Silica, while plastics will melt easier under extreme lighting.

I am curious, though, if regular glass will increase the heat of the lights in the tank... you know, how a magnifying glass works. Just a thought. Also, has anyone ever have a snail crawl out or a fish jump out without a lid?

Because it's not designed to focus, and refracts a certain amount, the glass will actually reduce the light and heat getting to the tank.

The only snails that have escaped from my lidless tanks are nerites. Turbos, trochus, astraeas all have stayed put for me.
