Glass Thickness

glass cages is supposed to make a few western us shows, you might see if they are gonna be nearby and can pick one up from them at a show, their tanks are cheap but not built like standard glass aquariums, they are designed more like acrylic tanks

you mean that show tanks are cheaper than standard glass tanks... meaning they are cheap make? Not as strong? The reason why I'm asking is because I wanted ~200 gal I want to house oscars, jack dempsy, green terror.. fishes of that nature. So I would rather to get good quaility/strength out of a big tank. I guess I'll stop by some LFS and see if they have any info like catalog and see what they have.
Thanks for your responses guys.

cheap as in $$

they're not show tanks, they're tanks that you can buy at a show where you buy fish stuff. like an expo

Oo nice, like an "expo thing"... that defintely will work great only if I can find one in Colorado. I'll check the glasscage and see if they have any info about expo or anything like that. I've actually send glasscage an email and asked how much the shipping would be for a $550 tank 72 x 24 x 31 which is ~240 gal. Does the price sounds about right? If I manage to find one at an expo, I should be able to save some more $$ My fingers are crossed.
I guess I don't have what it take to build a custom tank.. I don't want to gamble and f**k it up

Glass cages is pretty cheap, good place to go, shipping is usually up there though. I looked into them for a couple 75s @$100 each, but shipping doubled the amount.

For glass thickness, AGA 125s are 1/4" thick glass. While AGA 55s are 1/8" thick glass. So for all practical purpouses double the volume, double the glass thickness. With this theory you would want 1/2" thick glass for a tank that size. Of course I am sure you could also ask Glass Cages what thickness glass they use for a tank that size to find out for sure.

I got email from them today and they said the glass is 1/2 inch thick all around. That sounds good! I'll go to one of their show and get one in future. Theres one in New Mexico but its on wrong day. I always can wait until one of their show comes in Colorado or somewhere close to where I live. I'm just glad that they do shows so I don't have to pay those hefty shipping cost!
No hurry for me here, just nice to know a site like that. Do you know any other sites besides glasscages?

just to let yall know if you live in a house most floors ( not the concrete type) are only rated for between 60 and 80 active lbs per sq. foot so you might wanna take that into consideration when you are building your behemoth tanks it might take a few months under the strain but adventually you will have a gaping whole in your floor where you tank used to be if you dont spread the weight out correctly

active lbs. per sqare foot is lbs. more then the waeight of the floor meaning any additional lbs. including your padding and carpet count towards that number two the only way to be sure is to check with the owners or the contractor who built it or someone who know how to to do the math
