Glass thickness

When it finally goes, it'll be almost 40 gallons of water (320 lbs.), rock, and critters hitting the floor. Glass does not like to be stressed and I'm sure the frame is being stressed also. With luck, it'll just leak at first.
If I didn't have the money for a new tank, I'd start looking in the classifieds for a used one, maybe even get a bigger one. $50 for a used tank vs. $??? for new flooring.

With a little research, I found the wall thickness of a 50-gallon aquarium should be 6mm and the floor thickness should be 9mm.

yeah I've found that too.
I spoke with my boss at the lfs and he said with the design of my tank, it's liable to burst at any time. So I talked my parents into an extra-early christmas present, a 65 gallon tank with a wooden stand and wet/dry filter (which I was going to get for christmas anyway). I'm paying for about half of it. It's new, when I was looking used I couldn't find any tanks in the appropriate dimensions (36x18) for the space I want it to fit in - the 65 is 36x18x25. I got it all for about 10% above what the store pays for it, since I work there, but it still came to $500.

We pick everything up on Friday.
