Glass top or Not?

I use glass tops. I have seen beautiful tanks that do not use tops. It all depends on what you are stocking. Planted tanks with shrimp and some neons typically do not need tops.
On my discus tanks I cover just so I don't have a dead discus in the morning. They definately can jump. Other stock like snails like to crawl out. Even with a pretty tightly fitted glass top I still find a snail in the house from time to time that got out and hid somewhere.
Evaporation is definately somehing to consider. It will happen more frequently without a top>

I have a glass top b/c it limits evaporation, it limits the wet dust bunny masses that get into that tank from the canopy top, & number one on my list, it keeps fish from jumping out, like I know they do.

I'll be keeping the glass top.
The tank is a 30 gal/ 36" long.
Initially set up for snails for my bro's dwarf puffers. Which gave me an excuse to start "something".
So now it's my "get to learn something about plants" tank.
Occupants now.
Some plants.
Around 10 easily noticed pond snails(?) around a 1/4".
1/2" Ram. And 3 around 1/4". And a couple of smaller seen.
2-gold trap door snails. 1 a little larger than a quarter, and the other slightly bigger.
1 milaysian around 1/2". Last seen about 10 minutes after putting in.
Trap doors, Largest Ram and Milaysian were picked up at LFS last saturday while getting a few more plants.
The trap doors are the only ones I've paid for so far. Other hitch hiked or intentionally taken out of the LFS tank and put in with the plants.
Future wanna have's:
Red Cherry Shrimps from AC member(s).
Neon Tetra's.

All mine have them except my 10. The cheapo light fixture fits right into the indents and the bulbs have splash shields.
i have a 55 and a 75 neither have tops, light both have spash sheilds... when the water line drops 1/2 inch below the frame its time to do a water change lol about once a week
