I recently got an AGA Versa Top for my 36g All-Glass Bowfront. The box says the dimensions of the Versa Top are 29 5/16" x 15 1/32". The bowfront is 30" x 15" (according to the AGA web site).

It does not fit properly.

From lip to lip my tank is 14.5" and my filters take up 2.5" of that. I therefore have 12" of open space.

The glass top, sans the plastic striping, is 12.5" deep and too deep for my tank. I have an overlap of .5" at the front and I hate it.

Now, my question -- are all the Versa Tops like that? I mean to order some for the 75gs and they come in two sizes: 48 x18 (which is the 75g size) and 48x13 (for the 55g).

Which should I order?

I'm going to send an email to AGA and ask them to explain why it doesn't fit.

I recently had a problem with the All glass top for my 5.5 gallon. I had to build a frame out of wood to house it because the glass top was too SMALL to fit the dimensions of my tank.

As long as they're on AGA tanks, I've never had a problem with the versatops as far as fit goes (though I have no curved aquariums).
If you were to order versatops for an AGA 75g tank, then go with the 48" x 18".

I have 72g Oceanic and All glass bowfront tanks, and the tops fit perfectly.. both are exactly the same size and are interchangable...

Arte you sure it doesn't seem to fit because the filters are too big ?

I doubt it's because my filters are too big. My Penguin 100s stick out 2" and this Penguin 330 is only ½" bigger. Sure as heck wouldn't put a 100 on a 36 gallon. Magnum HOT 250 needs the same clearance - 2½".

I've emailed them. Maybe they'll reply and tell me what the hey is going on.

What kind of filters do you have and how far do they jut out, Ras? I just don't want to get something that is going to sit on top of the tank instead of on the lip. Looks horrid.

Filstar XP3 and Penguin 350; the Penguin sticks out about 2.25" from the inside of the upper lip of the tank. The filstars take up only about 1" of space.

When I went to my LFS in search of a glass top for my 29g AGA they said their glass tops didn't fit AGA's and I needed to get an AGA versatop. It stands to reason then that my new versatop would not fit their glass tanks either. I would buy the glass top that is specifically designed for your aquarium. The other option is to have a local glass company cut one to fit, which isn't as expensive as it sounds.

Are you sure the 350 only sticks out 2.25"? I was under the impression that the 350 and the 330 were pretty much the same. Maybe my math is off. I'm going to measure it again after I pick my daughter up from school.

AGA the acronym for All Glass Aquarium.
