Hey guys, I just set up a 55gallon aquarium and bought 12 glass cats for it under the impression that I could keep them with my future discus, but now I am having doubts, mainly about the temperature of the tank.

Right now I have the temperature set at 82 degrees and I read on a website that this would be the max for glasscats, but I know discus like it even hotter then that (84-88)...

Does anyone know if I can raise the temperature safely on the glass cats? Anyone have any experience with this? What should I do?

Thanks

Well I've actually found the opposite to be true of glass cats. For me they have been very tolerant to water conditions, I have been keeping them for over 2 years but always at a temperature of 80 degrees.

I know people DO keep them with discus, I am just curious how high I can raise the temp safely.. ???

Not sure about the temp but I can comment on stressors. I had 3 in with my SA Lungfish for about 6 months with no problems, and then I moved and gave them to a friend. Later (2-3months) I found out he'd been keeping them with an Ornate bichir, with no loses. And now its been 9+ months and everyone is happy. So from my experience as long as they are not being eaten/nipped they should be fine with bigger fish. Hope this helps and Good Luck!

I had my 6 with my Discus in a 150 g tank for a few months. I turned the temp down to 80 degrees. If you check fishbase.org the temps for Discus are a heck of a lot lower than some people would lead you to believe :-) I keep my Discus at 81 deg. I never did feel comfortable keeping the GlassCats at even 80 deg because I know they like it a lot cooler.
