Okay, I saw knife gobies and bumblebee gobies at the LFS. They were in freshwater and seemed to be doing okay. Can they be kept in freshwater for a long time? And how big does each of them get? Are they aggressive?

I want some badly :D
 
Do you mean Knight gobies?

Both Knights and Bumblebees should be acclimated to brackish waters. I beleive they are usually born in FW but soon move the brackish. I dont have the exact specs up a google search should turn up plenty of species profiles on them, but BB's I beleive get to about 2" and Knights about 4". I'd look them up to be sure though.

I've had both in my brackish tanks and they are neat fish.
 
I tried for about six months to keep bumblebee gobies alive in a freshwater tank, but I had no luck. They are awesome fish; they don't take any crap from other fish, even if they're several times their size. I had some FW salt in the tank, but no where near brackish conditions. The gobies would be fine one day, dead the next. I have heard they can be acclimated over time to not require so much salt, but that's more trouble than I care to go through, plus I'm not sure it's the best thing for the fish.
 
Bumble Bees like salt in their tank, even if only a slight brackish tank.

Knight Gobies are also BRACKISH only but be aware, they have big mouths and will eat fish that fit in their mouth, eg tetra size
 
So are bumblebee gobies true brackish fish or no? We keep them at PetSmart in freshwater and I don't think I've ever had to write one off. They seem to do quite well although we almost always have juveniles.
 
yet petsmart is the one that says dwarf puffers dont need salt....
 
Ummm.....I am very aware that PetSmart spreads a lot of false information. However, dwarf puffers are 100% freshwater....I'm assuming in your own way, you were attempting to answer my question. Does anyone else say yay or nay as far as the gobies being brackish?
 
Bumblee Bee gobies can live in both.

ive seen them in brackish and freshwater

Hmmmm, than petsmart as atleast SOME correct info.

As for the gobys, knights im not sure, but there are 2 species of BBs.

1 has complete bars

1 has broken bars

I think the complete one was the 1 that could live okay in FW
