Omg today I checked wheree goby went. And when I opened my hood for the nano cube, I see the goby looking up at me! Ugh what a nightmare! I tried cornering it, but I stirred up too much of this stiff in the filter that I wasn't able to see anything right now I am waiting for the water to clear up alittle. Do you think that stirring up all of the mulm in the filter is okay? Or will there be an ammonia spike?

You may do yes, but i would not worry too much about it..it can be a pain to catch them in the overflow / filter...I once had my orange spotted goby do this, had to bend and shape a net to get one down to the bottom to catch it..

Hope you get it out safely...

Niko

thanks niko. but I finally got it out! yay! ugh took me like 3 hours! oh and my goby is an orange spotted goby too what a coincidence! I have a question. Is it going to jump like this all of the time?or is it just doing this because it is new to the tank? I put plastic wrap on top of the filter so that it wont jump in there again. phew! what a releif. anyway, plz answer the question because I really need to know quickly thanks

Glad you got him back out. I have a diamond goby and it will jump, mostly lands into the overflow if scared. This is with the glass on top of the tank. It's happened three times now. If he sees the mag cleaner move he freaks. Anyway I just stick a net down there and bump him and he'll come shooting out a foot or so above the water and land back in.

nice save:) did stirring up the filter cause any change in that parameter at all?

Next time try turning all the lights out. Use a weak flashlight and get him in the dark. Fish have a really hard time understanding the light, nets, etc., at night and you can often catch them much easier.

today my goby is finally in the tank sifting the sand out in the open. He is even starting to take interest in the mysis shrimp that I dropped into the tank. Hopefully he will start eating soon. Also do you any of you guys know a way to keep the goby from jumping into my filter? I have a nanocube tank so it is really easy for it to jump right in. Also he only jump during the middle of the night. Do u guys know why?

this is how i lost my goby, you have a nano so there is not too much to worry about in the department of jumping out of the tank, but be careful they can kill themselves on the glass/plastic on the lid.

double post because i just saw this. as fish dont have the best eyesight in the dark lots of things trigger the fight or flight response, so if a door opens or shuts sometimes its scares the little bugger.

You are lucky, i just bought a new sand sifting goby (idk what kind, all white blue spots on face and a black spot on his top fin). He was fine for 2 days sifting sand and eating mysis. In the morning i was looking for him, looking all over on the ground, but i have a acrilic rimmed tank it would have been a feat to jump out. I couldnt find him so i decided to feed, and for some reason the tunze sucked in the brine instead of pushing it and i put my hand in front of it and then the ph started working correctly and it shot out my goby. He was fine, i believe that the tunze ph malfunctioned and sucked in the goby. Im sad :( he was great for the sand bed, cool looking, and a tight fish. Glat u got yours ok.
