I have to go away for a few days, mini vacation, and wondering just how many days can I leave my fish without food for? I'll be leaving in the early am so should I wake everyone up and feed before I leave, and then once I come back? I'll be gone for 3-4 days. Feeding Block? Automatic Flake Feeder? Don't worry about it?

Thanks!!

Unless you have fry or other fish in a fragile state I wouldn't do anything. I've had bad experiences with the feeder blocks when I was younger. If you have an auto-feeder that wouldn't be bad, but I wouldn't buy one for this one event.

When we left for 2 weeks on our honeymoon, we had a neighbor stop by a single time to feed our fish. When I got home, my fish were in fantastic shape, the water was clearer than it had ever been, and since they were not being fed, water conditions were very much within normal safe limits.

Being cold blooded animals, they don't require constant feeding like we do. Your fish will be fine for a few days.

If this absence will interrupt your normal water change schedule, do one befor eyou leave, and before you get back. Most adult fish will be fine for much more than 3-4 days.

Ha,Ha,Ha... How do you do a water change before you get back, if you are not there???
Don't worry OrionGirl, I know you meant to say "do a water change when you get back" , But someone had to say it.LOL ;)

"Weekend" Feeders...

Hi,

If you generally feed your fish daily, you DO NOT need to feed them if you are only gone for 3-4 days. They will be much better off than if you pollute the water with a feeding block. If you go away often, you should consider an electric auto fish feeder with specific compartments so that you can contro the rations EXACTLY. Have a nice trip.

Onion girl, did you change your avatar b/c of what that guy said about your other one looking like a pile of dung? I honestly thought it looked fine.
