Well im leaving monday for a little over a week (aruba!). My tank as it is right now is 10 gal, with 1 albino cory cat, and 1 ghost shrimp. The tank is not fully cycled, but has been running for a long time. Heres what i was thinking I was going to do, if its stupid please correct me.

Im going to give back the cory (ive decided to get pigmy instead. From what i hear the albinos get too big, and are sensitive to nitrites and shouldnt be cycled with). Later today I was going to get some live plants, and 2 ottos. I figure, with the live plants, and the small fishload (would be 2 ottos, and 1 ghost shrimp), i would be able to leave my tank running while on vacation (have someone feed them occasionally. I am getting tons of brown algea, and i guess ottos like to eat it). I was also going to add a pouch of bio-spira i have when i add the plants and ottos. im hoping by the time i get back my tank will be cycled.

AFTER vacation, I have some seachem onxy sand, and some fine blue gravel. I was going to mix them (with much more onxy than gravel), and switch it with the gravel i have (i have extra filter media in, and will seed with old gravel), and then wait thru another mini cycle (if one occurs), and then actually plant the tank with plants ill want in the long run.

any comments or suggestions would be awsome. Also, recomend any plants over others? I was going to get some anacharis, a small sword, and maybe some hornwort or something.

The otos will not like the tank unless it is stable. They are quite sensitive. Take back the cory and just leave the tank. When you get back clean the whole thing and start over. Sounds like that is what you want to do anyway.

Have fun on vacation.
