I do little to my 29g tank, period, remove a few leaves here and there sure, spend an hour doing water changes, fine. If anything the SW would be more time consuming than the FW.
Excuses excuses! If I can change the water daily on 100+ betta fish while maintaining a house, job, 3 cats, 1 dog, a horse, and a boyfriend AND a husband then you can do some homework and get to tanking!
JK lol
Well about the excuse thing and the boyfriend thing.. unless someone is looking for a girl with a lot of tanks and a love of scaled things... >.> haha
Good luck! I managed to keep running my 9 tanks while in high school (tanks ranging from 29g- 209g) and part time job plus caring for my horses . It is all about balance and dedication! Then in college, I would drive 45 mins to my parents house weekly to do the water changes on the tanks at home, while I lived in the dorms I had an Eclipse 6 gal. I took a year or two break from the hobby when I moved down here to AZ to get on my feet and I now have 3 tanks again . It's addicting! You won't be able to stay away for long! Good luck in school!
This hobby is so addicting..I play football and when I started college last year I figured playing football and going to school I would have to take down my tanks and just focus on my goals. Half way through the season I walked into the LFS to "check it out" and say hi to the owner, the next thing I know Im setting up two tanks.
Im a senior and I don't find my tanks to be too much of a hassle even with school and a job. But I'm 100% FW. I'm not looking forward to deciding what to do with my tanks this summer...
nothing better than a quick study break with a water change.
if it is taking that much time to maintain your tanks, perhaps you are overdoing it?
or perhaps not doing things as efficiently?
a waterchange even on a big tank should not take more than an hour per week, even with all the messing around...
I maintained 6 tanks while going through university.
sure, it meant some late night water changes the odd time, but it was totally worth it.
this hobby is awesome.
you will likely do BETTER in highschool with the tanks than without.
they will give you something to work towards while studying (study for 45 mins, watch fish for 10 mins etc) and allow you to have an enjoyable study break.
without them, you will probably be a bit bummed out, not as happy, and your studying may suffer.
remember: studying and school work is as much as about being EFFECTIVE as it is about simply putting the time in.
trust me, I know.
hope to hear you kept them all and good luck with school!
i would just cut back to slower growing plants. heck my 120 i spend about 30 mins a week really. i start a wc walk away for a while take it out add prime fill it back up.
