Yes, both are dwarf cichlids. I don't have them yet, since I'm still saving to build a stand and buy equipment for the breeding setup. Maybe by then you will have some other place to house them in. Just for info.....they sell 10 gallon tanks at Petsmart for $8.99.(tank only)
From what I have read and heard, they need a minimum of 10 gallons to breed in. I'm sure you could get lucky and get it done in a smaller tank, but It's always safer to stick with a larger water supply. They are very sensitive to water fouling when breeding (from research, anyway). I plan on using a mixture of 10, 20L, and 40 (breeder) tanks in my setup. Oh, and for breeding Apistos, you need soft acid water......my well water will work nicely, I believe (pH 6.0, KH 0.6). If you acclimate them, they live fine in neutral to slightly alkaline water (most of them).
