You got a Brig...99% sure...Not a great looking operculum...Feed him well...Lots of calcium rich veggies and it will improve...Here is a pic of a Cana operculum...Notice it looks more like a kidney bean?

Yes I notice that! Thank you so much for helping me, something I can pass onto my students if ever need be. I have some calcium dissolving in the water now, a regular thing i do. Someone mentioned feeding them lettuce, would spinach be okay? Do you think he'll eat my plant? What about zucchini? I have some left over.

ah! turns out i have the same kind of snail as gk, thanks to pixie's handy ID on them.

i checked the apple snail site once, not for long but from what i saw the community was great

It is not a fool proof guide, but it is pretty accurate...If it gets bigger then a ping pong ball you will know it isnt a brig
