The females have the orange bellies, the deeper the orange the more ready they are to breed. I only bought a pair, no other fish in my tank, and they started laying eggs within a week.

I don't think you need to buy 6. Even the worlds hottest women would sleep with the worlds ugliest man if they were the only 2 on a deserted island forever.

convicts are usually hard to keep from breeding, so theyre not as picky as most cichlids with who they pair off with. just get a male and a female and you are effectively guaranteed to have a pair, and too many babies.
