Gold Gourami with ICH? - Very Early Stage...?

I have a Gold Gourami in my tank and have been monitoring them for Ich disease or anything since getting them from Petcetera one week ago.

I notice today that on the right fin of the fish, there is a white dot there... it's the only one I believe to be on his body and he seems to be swimming around fine, but he is chasing my other Gold Gourami around the tank every so often... not sure if I should split them up?

But on the right fin there is the white dot there and I'm guessing it is ich? These are my first fish.

What should I be doing at this point? Waiting to see what happens or treating immediately... I'm not that experienced with fish and I'm just learning.

Will the other 4 guppys and Gourami already have ich now?

Thanks

When dealing with Ich, it is best to tret the whole tank. Once you see the Ich on the fish it is in its adult stages. Do you have a quarantine tank to put him in if you need to? I would read up on Ich on this site. There are many methods to treat it, but most commonly people say to slowly raise the temp of the tank to 86 degrees and to add salt to the aquarium at 1-2 tsp (? i think tsp) per gallon. also add that in small incriments. The best thing to do is read about it. i think there is even a sticky on the matter.

most likley they do, because ich spreads like wildfire. you're best off giving them a salt bath or using a commercial ich killer on the whole tank.

PLEASE stop telling people to give their fish salt baths for ich. They do not work and can cause a lot of stress on already stressed fish.

Ich article that tells you what you need to know and how to treat for it:

Not slight. Slight won't do it. At least 1-2 tsps per gallon.

When you say "bath" you sound like they are to take the fish out of the tank. That won't get rid of the ich in the tank at all. That's why I think "bath" is confusing.

Thanks, reading this article now.

So there was only ONE white dot, but it looks to be gone now... so I'd assume it is Ich..

I'm also cycling my tank... it's been running now for a bout 1.5 weeks... is the medicine going to affect anything?

And also, turning the temperature up to 80, will that be alright for my Gouramis and Guppys to survive in? I've been keeping it around 75ish

Actually there is still a minor white mark there where it was, but its not like it was before its rather faint...

sorry, that's right. i meant slight to start out with, because some kinds of ich are weaker than others, and the less stress on your fish, the better.
i'm sorry we had to have such a huge misunderstaning, roan. well, at least it's all cleared up and we can stop being mortal enemies.
