Gold Nugget Pleco- Questions?

I've had mine about 8 months now. I see him/her? maybe once a week. There are occations when I think he is no longer alive, then he pops out of the caves and swims around a little. I'm guessing he/she has grown about 1"-2" in that time. Mostly eats shrimp pellets, and whatever else it munches on in the middle of the night when it comes out. Very gorgeous to look at when he is showing off.

1. They actually dont get huge, if someone can post a pic of a 8"+ GN I would buy them a beer.Mine is about 4" and they grow very slow.

2. Mine does not bother plants

3. Mine actually eats any algae he can.

4. They are omnivores, mine likes veggies as much as meaty foods and he eats non stop.

5. Never kept one in a PH this low so I'm not sure.

6. Not compared to the bigger types.

Here is a pic and vid of mine(I have an unusually active nugget as you can see).

Thats a beautiful Gold Nugget, Haggisman. It has better coloration than mine. Mine is the smaller dot version, but hey, its actually living pretty well. I even know it eats zuchini at night.

Thsnkf for all the help, and i agree that a great looking pleco. In fact the one i got, looks exactly the same with the large yellow dots! I here they are the more sensitive of them all though.

One other question though. My gold nugget is very shy and sits in one spot all day long. Im not sure if hes eating, but i threw in a algae tab last night and it was gone by the morning. Anyways, im wondering if he will become more active with time once he gets to know the tank a bit better?

Newly aquired fish should be fed meaty foods and maybe weight down a slice of zuchini near where it hides and see if theres any nibble marks on it in the morning.

I went to the LFS today and got a small one, the bigger dot variety. It seemed very active at the LFS, so I'll see how it does. :)

is it just me or is the pleco in the original picture (frame one) look a little beaten up?
