Ive read that these catfish absolutely need driftwood. If i do not have any in the tank what will happen to the gold nugget pleco?

drift wood is very very very important with amlost any pleco out there!!!!

dont skimp out on a gold nugget... beautiful pleco :)

I wish i had the option at the time to get a GN, our lfs was out that day, they can be spendy plus shipping, our BN's are great tho, and yes they naw on dw daily........:)

Not all require it, but I recommend it for a GN pleco.

I'll have to admit i was under the impression that there diet required high fiber like wood, not just some vegetable matter, i did a Little research A few moths ago,and the consensus on some sites highly recommended it for BN'S also....

I have seen that trend lately for BNs. I wonder if they prefer fresh wood and are basically eating soft fiber?

Ive seen fiber strings from wood when i do a vac, so they are ripping on it, i don't know how much they eat tho.........:)

its funny I got into a war over on MFK a little while ago when I posted pics of my 6 year old 7 inch royal.

everyone jumped on me and claimed he was going to die and was 'unhealthy' because I do not have wood in his tank anymore..

but he has been doing fine on a diet of wardely's shrimp pellets, and other dried foods.

at the LFS where I used to work, often the only thing we could get newly imported Gold Nuggets to eat was shrimp pellets...upon arrival to the stores, they can be very fussy eaters..and they show up from the jungle emaciated..

I agree with the others here: it is recommended, but not strictly a requirement.

Well i dont plan on having driftwood so is there any other cool looking pleco that doesnt need driftwood?
