I have seen gold CAE's for sale in the past. but while buying some regular SAE's there were some gold one's in the tank that was the same size and shape. they do not have any color on them except the goldish orange color, they are also only about 2 inch's long at this time. are these CAE's or SAE's the lfs said they were SAE's but would like to know for sure.

they have no barbs, the mouths look just like the SAE's and they also look like they have the nasal lobes of the SAE's.

Well almost sound like you have FALSe siamese algae eaters. I have one and didn't notice its barbs for a long time, they are much smaller than the real SAE's barbs are. The false is much pritier with its gold and colour but I find it is also much more teritorial and a little agressive defending its food.

Here is an article that I found EXTREEMLY informative and cleared up the confusion for me:

That should help you figure out exactly what it is you have.

Thanks for the info. Guess I will just wait and see what the 2 gold ones do. Got a 125 cycling and was gonna put them in there anyway. If they get too big and mean, CAE sushi?--NO, JUST KIDDING!!! Then, maybe the lfs will take them on trade or something. for now, they are all only about 2" long anyway.
