Goldfish and current

Ok hope I did this right. Here are my little guys. Pug the Black Moore I got in August and he's about doubled in size. The fantails, Cal and Pinto, came home early Oct I think and are working on getting bigger. I can't get them to hold still for a photo unless they are begging but they still wiggle then too. This is the best they would let me get this morning.

Mine won't stay still for a picture either.

Jack, my oranda loves to surf in the jet output from one canister filter. Ilya, the ryukin is a lot smaller and doesn't get right up to the jet, but likes the gentler outflow from the spray bar on the other canister.

I love your glass pebble floor! I think I'll get some for my 20 gallon QT tank.

My husband favorite color is orange which is why I think the fish and the fish in the tank won him over so quickly. He's on board with the much bigger tank now as long as we do something affordable like ebay or craigslist. I showed him some of the huge goldies that have their photos in here and he wants to see how big out guys can get now too :)

If you get the glass pebbles that have clear as one of the colors it's really easy to see when it's dirty but would be very easy to scoop out and get cleaned up. I like the way it looks and for now with the smaller tank I like it because it motovates me to get it all cleaned up which I know is important. I vac it about every 3 days, usually a quick job with water changes but really good every week and half or so. I don't know what I'll do with the bigger tank...55 gal or bigger would mean a lot of rock to keep clean all the time and algae also likes the clear rocks too.

Jennifer, a larger tank does mean a lot of rock but remember that in a bigger tank, you have a lot of water volume. More volume is generally easier to keep in a chemical balance. So you should have better water parameters, which should eliminate any algae you're seeing right now. By that time you will also have learned more about how to best keep the parameters balanced. :)
You will definitely like seeing your fish grow larger in a big tank. I think the most enjoyable thing about keeping goldfish is taking a little dingy-looking baby and growing him out to a gorgeous, colorful adult with flowing fins. Plus, the longer you have your fish, the more attached to you they will be. It sounds funny to say you'll develop a relationship with your fish, but it's really true!

I know that the bigger tank will be easier to keep but I was just mentioning that the rock I have now has a lot of clear that I now know makes a wonderful display of poops quickly. So I may opt for some other type of gravel or sand that might not have it show up so well on the bottom. I've also been thinking...and reading about plants that the boys may like when we get them their bigger diggs. I think that Christmas might be good to both good girls and fishes :)

Doesn't sound funny too me at all. I'm a pet person and spend about the same amount of time talking to the fishes as I do the dogs. Along with all the other things execpt for the head scratches but we do a little finger wiggling thing instead. And play refferee at meal times...as Pugs eye have telescopped more he can't see as good as the fantails and will chase them to where he thinks they see food and push them out of the way if frustrated...can't have that become a habbit so mom watches and nips it in the bud and doesn't happen much now. And I can't decide where in the house I want the bigger tank...I just need to rebuild my house with a huge tank in the middle that I can see from everyroom...or figure out how to have a 55 or larger in each room...

You and the rest of us too! :D In my dream house, I have one of those ponds with a staircase going around and down the side to a lower level so I can see into it from the side like at the public aquarium. Now that would be killer.

Right now my plan is one fish tank at a time as to not freak out the husband:dance: Then add on to the house so I can do something super huge along a whole wall of the new livingroom or as a wall between the kitchen and dinningroom...who needs a china hutch when you can have goldfish instead :)

Thanks to The V for pointing out craigslist. The boys more most likely getting an up grade for Christmas. I just found an older post with a 30 gal with everything that I can afford right now and close enough I could go pick it up later this week :) Thank goodness for college towns and I found this one with out any fish in it that I would have to figure out what to do with. Just have to get the husband ok and then the guys get twice as much room for $75.

I know still not big enough for them all grown up but it's going in the right direction...then I can wait a little longer to find the right tank to get the boys where I want them in the big tank that will have to fit into a corner.
