Goldfish and current

Yes I am drooling...so many nice big tanks so little floor room. When I go for over 100 gal I'm planning to go BIG in the addition to the house that will have concrete foundation for many reasons including fish :) Maybe then I could also go with some bigger not as fancy goldfish like a nicely dressed common or comet. I think they are really cool but I now know better than to do anything but look until I have huge tank or pond. Or both.

I would keep looking for huge now but even if I found room for it I don't think the husband will let me go to multi-tank extreams so it would be that tank and that's it. That is unless I slowly get him addicted too :evil_lol: Right now he's ok with little bigger tank (read as low priced) until the fish get a bit bigger then up to a nice tank for the boys when they "really need it". I think he is still under the belief that they won't really get 'that big' and there won't really be another tank but is liking watching them grow up.

Maybe I'll show him both tanks and see which he likes...30 would fit in bathroom, 55 would fit in kitchen, and 15 could go in my office. I'd like another betta and a tank to grow greens for salad would be nice...but I think that's just dreaming.

My wife has currently has control over my Multiple Tank Syndrome. She's holding me strictly at four tanks, until our silly realtor can find us a place to buy.

Then say hello to a little pond, 3-4000 gallons. Which of course will then mean the 125g will be converted to a planted tank (guppy farm). Which leads to the requirement of building a new stand to be able to add more light. Which leads to the need of a 30 gallon QT tank for the said plants. Which leads to more lights, another stand and someplace to put them. The guppies (the wifes choice he he.. ) will need to be culled so I'll need a larger carnivor tank. .........

This is how people end up with 30 or 40 tanks.

I got vetoed...:swear: He too worried about everyone else for Christmas. Crazy holiday. The 30 and stand should fit in the car as I won't have the blessings or weather to take the truck to go and get it. I don't think the 56 would fit even if I could get the price down. He did like the 125 but not the price. I got fish too big for my tank, my mistake but I'll fix it one way or another and he'll get used to the tank once it's home with fish in and the little tank goes away.

Do not mix common goldfish or commet with fancy variety. Give 15gallons per one goldfish water volume and try not to get overstocked. U will already know that they are messy and it will be easy for water changes if u can get some plumbing near the tank. I have a tap over my tank so i don't have to carry the bucket to and fro and hurt my back. And some drain near the tank too. Keep things as simple and easy as possible. Goldfish live long and keeping them is a long time commitment. So don't do anything over an impulse. Too bad i had to lean these by my mistakes. Goodluck with your tank and goldies.

You can mix regular and fancy goldfish. Iv never had a who gets more food problem. Iv got 10"+ oranda and a 12"+ comet with a 7-8" calico in with a 3.5" moore, when I got the moore he was 2". He never has a problem getting his share of food.

Have you thought about adding any live plants to your tank? My fantail and oranda love swimming through them, and they will help to oxygenate the water as well. I recommend any kind of anubias because it won't get chomped; my two little guys tend to leave it alone.
Good luck in the tank search!

Good news...I'm getting a fish tank  Thanks in part to many nice long distance Christmas gifts in the form of checks and to The V for finding me the lovely tank on Craigslist. My little fishies are going to love the room and my husband is now peeking at Wal-Mart to see if their are any new goldies he likes. He'd gotten so used to the guys in the bathroom that he didn't want the tank to become fishless....he maybe catching the same thing I've got. I'll start another post when I get more details on the tank :) and the clear weather to make the trip to fetch it home.

Congrats.

Did you get the 125?

When you get the bigger tank in use the smaller tank in the bathroom as a quarantine tank. Put the new fish you pick up in this tank for the first month to make sure they don't have any contagious diseases. This will prevent the new fish from passing on diseases to the older fish. The smaller volume of water is also a lot cheaper to medicate if you need to.

I use an old 15 gallon as a QT tank. I've had to medicate my entire 125 before. It cost me $80 in med's. The same treatment in the 15G cost less than $10. I QT all my fish now.

After you are finished stocking up the new tank you can then use bathroom tank for small fish and a bucket or rubbermaid container as a QT if you have to.
