Hello everyone! Right now I have a 10 gallon coldwater tank with 3 orandas (all 3 are under 2 inches) , 1 black moor (under 1 inch) and 1 lion head, who is 1-2 inches. I was wondering if I had any other options for fish in this aquarium.
Well actually the fish you have will still be a full load for a 50 gallon tank. They should grow to be at least 6 inches if not more and once grown up produce lots of waste. A 50 is actually a minimum I would look to keep your current load in. The sooner they get in it the better they will be.
Yeah - for 5 goldfish, you should be looking at around 100 gallons as a minimum. They aren't easy fish, nor are they for beginners, or people looking to start 'small'.
100g!!!!! wow, what happened to the poor goldfish that people kept in bowls? They're all gonna get that big? Most of them are under 1" and the biggest one is 1 1/2"!
I asked a lady at the LFS (she is a goldfish breeder) and she said that keeping 4 in a 50 gallon tank is fine.......she does it herself....especially since I'm giving one of my orandas to my sister's teacher who has a 100g tank with only 3 goldies in it....so he wants to fill it up. And she said it takes them like 4 years to grow big, and they still arent completely grown, so I will buy a 20g all i can afford right now) and the 4 of them should be happier in that for now, until I can get a 50g, and find the space in my house to keep it in.
The problem is, they need the space TO grow. You cannot say, "well, they'll have a larger tank with 4 years...", because they need the space now so they can become as they should appear in adult life form. 3 Goldfish in a 50 gallon should work, but 4 is a little much. It does make all the difference in the world that you are giving the one fish away, but 4 goldies is still too much I say.
These fish are meant to live around 20 years of age. They would never live that long in a bowl. What happened to the bowls you ask? People got smarter. Or maybe the fishbowl generation "grew up".
