Goldfish and peas

Hi all!

I stumbled across the website because I am a newbie to being a fish parent. I am the proud parent of a gourami named Dory, who lives in its own little world.
I have my 3 girls (Ashley, a fantail; Mary Kate, a ryukin; and Natalie, an orange oranda). Natalie is the most friendliest. They are all adorable!
Oh, my question. Is it okay to feed my goldies canned peas? I just read that frozen are best. If that is the case, I will get some tomorrow. I have canned peas here though. :hi:

I would say a 55 gallon for those fish would be adequate... twenty bucks says they're in a 29 gallon or less...
 
As far as the peas go, I wouldnt use canned, but then I dont eat canned veggies myself. Frozen is much fresher and has less preservatives and other nasties (of course, if you have access to a garden, so much the better). Most fish enjoy veggies, try various kinds and see what they like. Just be sure to take out anything they arent eating so it doesnt foul up the water.

And yeah, your goldies need at least 15 gallons per fish, they are messy fish and will get quite large.
 
my goldfish enjoy thawed peas and fresh lettuce and oxygen weed. plus they get goldfish granules and flakes. occasionally they get bloodworms.
 
Canned peas contain salt. I don't know how much, but I heard that it's just not recommended.

Peas are often used as laxative for fish, and since goldfish are already a heavy bioload, you might want to reconsider feeding them THAT. If you still want to, you can just get frozen peas, but boil them until you feel they're soft enough, then feed them to them.
 
Goldfish dining

I have three goldies, and they just love peas. Depending on how big your goldies are, and I bet they're not huge, they probably won't eat more than a half a pea between them. I just put one in a cup of warm water for a little while. But they should be fresh or frozen, not canned. Take the skin off and just chop it into little bits on your finger. Make sure you don't mush them though as that starchiness will just dissapate in the water and soil your tank instead of feed your fish. Mine go crazy for them. They also like orange slices, zucchini, any live foods they can get their fins on like bloodworms, mosquito larvae. Their favorites right now are duckweed and watermelon. So find what your goldies like and run with it, it's good for them to have variety.
