Okay, so we have a 30 gallon tank with three Goldfish. Two that claim to be Ryukins, and one Common Goldfish. Plenty of room, but the Commoner has begun chasing the other two around, and it doesn’t look playful. I am struggling to determine if this is merely play, or the beginning of something serious. We love our .26 cent fish, we have had him for a year now, but this is starting to tick me off. Any ideas? Thanks.

the problem is most likely because they are fighting for space. The 30 gallon should be ok for the two Ryunkins but the comet is going to need more room. The problem with keeping full bodied goldies and commons together is this aggressive action which is common. The full bodies are just no match to the comets....

commons are much faster than round-bodied goldfish, grow bigger, and can outcompete them for food. not an ideal mix, especially in a 30g. the max in that tank should be just the two ryukins. the common can reach 12" or more.

Um... I want to ask a Golfish behavior question here without opening up a new thread.

1. I think I have a Male and a Female Goldfish pair and sometimes, the male pushes his nose into the female's belly. Is this normal or is it courtship behavior?

2. Right before I feed my Goldfishes, they start to swim up and down on the front left corner of the tank eradically, but after they are done eating, they calm down and scavenge the floor for more food.

it would be better to start a new thread
