Goldfish food.

if they are roundbodied they should not be fed floating foods because they can develop swim bladder disease. sinking pellets are the best for roundbodied and many companies have a sinking goldfish pellet. as always in my opinion hikari is the best brand and they do have a sinking goldfish pellet. it is known as hikari lionhead. you can also feed fresh produce like zucchini, squashed peas, and kale.

Why is that? does it hurt them to bend there head up to eat?

no, when they go to the surface to eat, they gulp at the flakes taking in a lot of air. The air get's stuck in their bladders, causing them to float unnaturally. Sometimes, this cannot be treated and the fish dies or needs to be euthanized. If you are feeding flakes, be sure to take a pinch of the food and take it under the surface of the water so that it sinks so that this is not an issue.

I have floating flakes for my tropical fish. IS this going to hurt THEM?

all goldfish will gulp, its the shortened body of the roundbodied goldfish that causes the duct to the swim bladder to not function properly (it squishes it up/closed).
