The discussion about gold fish was very helpful for me.I also have a gold fish but it doesn't hide away.But I can take some measurements to avoid the stress of goldfish by reducing the light and implementing a cooler system.
Good news, the goldfish is allot more active now and swimming about. Not sure what changed but i did plant a java fern so maybe it's helping with nitrates
