Goldfish in 3g temporarily

Testing the water in the 3g should give you as much information as you need here.

I think if there's any 'sickness' to be concerned with, it would be what he has already and may introduce to the 37g tank, the biggest issue (I assume) would be ammonia levels in the 3g tank, frequent water changes should mitigate that, testing the water would let you know if there is or is not a need to change the water.

you don't say how big this fish is, nor the dimensions of the tank he's in. so it may be fine, you don't really give enough information to know that, so advice will be given based on worst case scenarios to try to make this as easy on the fish as possible.

you don't need to be providing a tank that's big enough for a full grown adult fish at this point, just one that's big enough for the size of the fish at the time he will be removed. If the filter wasn't seeded, you are basically going through a fish-in cycle at the moment

The tank is 8x8x8. I had used this tank for bettas, but it's running without carbon. But I know it's a cycled tank, the sand remained wet after I drained the tank, 2 weeks ago. I did throw a large live plant into the tank to keep him from digging in the sand. The goldfish is about 2 1/2-3" and I'm not feeding him right now, don't want him to be stressed when i take him to my dad's sunday.

you should be fine.

just smile and say you tested your water,

It's fine unless the goldfish is huge. If you simply stated that you put a little goldfish in a cycled 3g for quarantine purposes you'd get a whole lotta high 5's. Fish get shipped in way less water and are fine...not great for long term but you never said this was its forever home. Don't stress...change water at least once and fast the fish. It's only 2 days people...give the guy a break!

The 3g isn't his forever home, my dad's 72 gallon bowfront is his forever home. I'm just making sure he's healthy before he goes into the tank.. So far, no illness and he's swimming around, fasting him for the next 2 days.
