Goldfish is swimming really weird - help!

I wish I could put him in a pond. I don't have that capability, nor do I know anyone in the area with a pond. There was a nursery that I was thinking had a stocked pond, but it is stocked with catfish, and they aren't interested in the fish. But I did find a 100gal with a stand that I can afford. Just need to figure out how to get the filter and substrate. And going to another store out of Town on Sunday to see if they are having a sale on tanks.

great! that'd be perfect! you might even be able to get him a friend or two.

hello Amy,
you can go to this site to find used fish tank.

www.craigslist.com

select your state and city then search for fish tank or aquarium. You may find a cheap one.

Some people use pond liner to build small indoor pond. I think some petsmarts have indoor pond. They use lumbers to build the pond like a box. Then put pond liner over. They also sale filter for pond too. If you like, you can go there to have a look.

Dont worry about substrate. A lot of goldie owners dont bother as it stops the bacteria having somewhere to build up.
Your biggest investment should be a filter that does as close as you can to 10 times tank capacity in filtering. A filter as well with lots of media is a good idea so externals are the best.
As for a tank mate then one more would be ok as goldies feel less threatened in a group.

Well I found out he is a common goldie, which doesn't change anything b/c they still end up 12-14 inches :o
1 more sounds cool, but I think I will wait just a few to get one. I'm finally really drained from doing 2x 50% a day. I know the 100gal will be a HUGE deference. I'm still going to add the substrate b/c he really seems to enjoy the live plants. As far as filter goes haven't decided which one yet, but it's going to be rated probably for 150gal, and going to have a biowheel.

When I do get a second does it have to be a goldfish, and if so does it need to be the exact same kind?

you can have another common goldfish like comet goldfish. You cannot put fancy goldfish with common goldfish because the common goldfish are too quick. They are going to eat all the food. Those fancies will be starved.

For my 125-gallon tank, I spent only $7 for the gravels. You don't need to buy gravels at the LFS. They are very expensive. I bought four bags of pea gravels from the local Home Depot. I actually used only 3 1/2 bags though. However, I spent four hours to wash and rince those gravels because they were so dirty.
