Goldfish & Plants

Forgot another:

Water Lettuce: Resiliant. Long hanging roots are too tempting for fish to pass up, but the plants seem unconcerned when they get chomped off. Mine go through cycles of getting massacred, then miraculously recovering and multiplying from only a handful of pods.

Just as a overall summary, I'd have to say that presenting the fish with variety has helped in my case. If they have lots of new toys, it's less likely that any one toy is going to get broken.

I've discovered another surprise plant that is working well in my tank:

Cabomba (fanwort): The goldfish leave it alone. The algae leaves it alone. It just keeps getting taller.

I went back to the store to get several bunches more to fill in by background. I still can't say why all my vals failed miserably.
