Recently I asked for help regarding a sick goldfish and gourami which developed probable fin rot and fungus because I didnt let my new tank cycle long enough. Thankyou to those who gave me advice. The gourami has since died. I put in some medicine which the fish shop gave me which contains methylene blue, acriflavine and malachite green. The goldfishes "skin" looks like it sloughing off. Is this the fungus dying or is he getting worse?

The skin might be sloughing off but more than likely it produced an very heavy slime coat in response to the poor water conditions and disease. Keep up on the water changes and the medication and hopefully your fish will heal up. As you've just seen goldfish can take conditions that would kill other species and survive. So keep the ammonia and nitrates in check and follow the directions on the medication exactly. You will have to monitor the water conditions carefully because the medication you are using will kill off some bacteria as well. If you can take a picture of the fish and post it here so we can see what is going on we maybe able to give you more than just a guess.
