I know Im driving everyone nuts today! Sorry! Ok I have two goldfish (they are fairly small) and 1 small (for now!) pleco in a 55 gal. It has no heater and the lowest Ive seen the temp go this year is 62ish. Are there any shrimp or snails that I can move in there and have be ok? Thanks!

Melissa

Goldfish eat almost everything. I dont think the snails would survive unless they were the giant apple snails. I doubt the shrimp would live very long either.

I have ramshorn snails in my goldfish tank. The goldfish seem to leave them alone.

Mine eat ramshorns but do just fine with brigs. I think that I will try trapdoors next. The goldies may nip at brigs, but I have never seen it, and have always kept snails with my goldies.

Keep an eye with your goldies and your pleco, unless it is a bristlenose. I have heard of people having trouble with slimecoats and plecos, but I suspect it's just one of those things that you have to keep a close eye on.

Hey,
I have a goldie tank and wanted shrimp, i found that bamboo/rock shrimp live fine as they are too big to get eaten, only problem is they prefere heated water, ive got mine set to around 23/24C and both the shrimp and goldies are happy. if you decide to get some, make sure you pick the larger ones. :D

I have huge gold mystery snail (who may actually be an apple snail...) but he lives with three common (each around 3-5 inches) goldies and bristlenose pleco. He's been in there for quite a while now and still lives and is in one piece. I was warned that the goldies may harras him, but they leave him alone. I keep a constant eye on him and he has a back up tank incase someone changes their mind but they've been that way for 3+ months.

Though my goldies have eaten some of my smaller pond snails... or I'm guessing thats where they went.

I have MTS in with my goldies with no issues. The MTS are under the sand most of the time anyhow, but I do catch one on the glass on occasion, neither of my goldies seem interested in it. They are both still small. One is a stunted comet, probably around 4" or so now, and the other is a young shubunkin at about 2.5". Neither of them pay any attention to the snails. They nibble on the plants on occasion, and they both mouth sand on a regular basis, but that's about it.
