I have a quick filtraton question. I got a new aquaclear 110 today in the mail. Should I expect to do major water changes in my 55g until the bacteria develope? Im pretty sure that I will have to, but I wasnt positive. Of course I will be monitoring the parameters, Im just looking for a heads-up. Thanks guys!

Is the tank cycled with another filter in it? If that's the case, no.

If the tank is not cycled and this is the only filter and ASSUMING you aren't using fish to cycle, then no anyways.

oh, my bad, it is an established tank. I am taking an aquaclear 70 out and replacing it with the 110.

the old media is going to be crazy small, but I was for sure going to put the white bacteria pebble things in there.

I would just run BOTH filters for about 2 weeks. Without adding anymore fish, you could then remove the unwanted filter and things will be fine.

Using the old media in the new filter method will work, but, as you stated, the old media is just so small and doesn't quite fit right in the larger filter.

For that reason, i would just run both filters for 2 weeks like mentioned above.
