55g. 12 rummies. 1 german blue ram.

i kind of want a big fish in there, to add contrast and to keep the school of rummies close and busy.. i was thinkin a blue (opaline/3 spot) or gold gourami for the tank..cause dont they get to about 5-6 inches?

any other big fish i could add that would be ok?

also, is there a difference between these 2 gouramis? ones an opaline, ones a 3 spot..but some fish stores will just both have them under "blue gourami"

The gourami with the 2 spots is called a Blue Gourami, the top one is a Opaline Gourami for sure!

A Dwarf Powder Blue Gourami is this:

But they can have many different patters and more red in them then the one shown. I used to have two but I sold them back to the store a few weeks later because they ate one of my mollies fins off and left it to die.

Copied and pasted from 13enzene's link:

The Blue Gourami, like the Gold Gourami, Platinum Gourami, and Opaline Gourami, is a color-morph of the Three-spot Gourami. The Blue Gourami and the Three-spot Gourami are identical except that the Blue Gourami has a hazy, whitish-blue coat.

ok thanks for the clear up. they all have about the same temperament right? and they do get to 5-6 inches like i said, right?

will they be ok in the tank? and any other options i have..?

Opaline Gourami -Trichogaster trichopterus

aka 3 spot, blue
these are all the same species just different color morphs .

you have to be careful with gouramis as they may be territorial or conspecific aggressive.(aggressive to same species)
said to reach 4-5"

i would not put blue gouramis or the like with the fish you have in your tank. not only do they not really fit the amazonian theme you have going, but they are just not good community fish and may pick at your other fish. in fact, they are known for being bullies towards fish that are the same size or smaller.

well i got two platys and one gold gourami.
one platy is actually swimming around, but the other is hiding deep down in trees..?

and the big 4.5 inch golden gourami stays at the top dark spot of the tank, or hidden low in trees..real fun fish -_-
