hey lay off buddy im 15 and im smart and trustworthy. It's people like you who make generalized statements that get me mad. how can u possibly say that? like come on buddy think before u speak. GEZZ

It's not nessisarily that there stupid, just that some of them do stupid things, however I don't think you'd have much of a problem with that in a classroom, but I still wouldn't be comfortable putting $60 discus in there.

What about platies? They reproduce with a little floating java moss and they're a nice bright orange-red that are easy to see...

I'm not sure what kind of guppies we are talking about here, but male fancy gups tend to run about 3.50 each around here with the females not too far behind. Platies would probably be cheapest because you would be able to get a variety of colors ("breeds") for anywhere from .99 to a few dollars depending on what you want to spend.

I guess the real question is do you want a pair of cool fish (i.e. the convicts) or a swarm of little guys (i.e. some type of liverbearer)? You could make an argument either way about what students would find more interesting to look at. Conicts would be more illustrative of breeding since you'd see the eggs while the livebearers just get fat and then one day there are little guys swimming around.

The comment about kids being stupid was over the line. I'm not in high school anymore, but when I was I certainly would have taken offense to a comment like that. What do you think they're going to do, stick their hands in the tank and yank something out? Give me a break.

here we go again.....

this is something i want to do in my next tank which will probably be somewhere near the size of the tank you want. N. BRICHARDI
i hear they are pretty easy to breed and you can keep multiple generations in the tank. previous broods even help care for fry and youngins :dance2:

o yea and they prefer sandy substrate with alot of rocks and cave so I guess it depends if you want to have a planted tank or not

I would think livebearers would be best, they are hardier and easier to breed with fry every month or so.
And why take offense to the comment about high school kids? I am a senior myself and can't argue with the statement made. The average high school student knows nothing about fish and would'nt mind adding random things into the tank to see what the fish do. My science teacher used to have a fishtank with goldifish that always had pencil erasers, pieces of paper, and sometimes and overload of food put into the tank by bored kids.

and we're suposse to respect our elders? sorry i need to be reminded why some times...

I shall respect my elders who treats people of my age like an adult, not some stupid kid. And even though you are saying that some people do it, its not even that no one does that kind of thing nowerdays, its called common sence if your experienced with fish or not.

everybody just calm down. hasn't everyone learned by now that Mgamer just likes to start fights. besides, MOST kids are irresponsible and at least a little stupid, if simply for the fact they haven't had time to learn those particular traits.
