Good Coldwater Fish (Small tank)

What about a flagfish? You might be able to house one in 3 gallons. They can take cooler temps and have personality like a cichlid.

Well I think I am going to get a comet goldfish. Keep it in there until it starts to outgrow the tank and transfer it to my larger goldfish tank at home. One of my goldies died from swimbladder disease a while back so the larger tank is understocked right now. This 3 gallon is filtered and does have enough swimming room to hold the goldfish until it is about 4 inches. After that it goes in the main tank where I hope he won't be picked on by the larger goldies.

Why do you come here asking for advice and then decide to go and put a Comet Goldfish in that UNSUITABLE size tank!? Just because that container will be filtered does not mean a comet goldie will be okay in there, even if it's for a short period of time! Why not just get another goldfish and put it into your larger tank..makes a lot more sense than to put it in such small confinements and risk stunting it's growth, not to mention that small of a tank is a lot less stable than a larger one and especially with a goldfish in it, the ammonia, nitrite and nitrates would be sky high without daily water changes!
Take everyone else's suggestions and look into the endlers for that small of a setup.

I am still thinking about endlers. I have not gone out to buy the goldfish yet because of the reason you pointed out. I will see what eventually ends up in the tank right now it is sitting empty and will start a fishless cycle soon.

What about Heterandria Formosa, the least killifish? North American native fish, I believe likes it around 74* or so, males ¼" and females up to 1".

Tricksterpup has that, well, when it's not Christmas, as his avatar.

Perhaps he can give you some info.

Hey Roan, thanks for thinking of me. :D

There is only one fish that can fit in a small tank very well, the least killie/dwarf live bearer, Heterandria formosa, aka the least killie or dwarf live bearer. These guys are hard to come by, these are usually a special order from your pet shop but they are great fish.
The males reach about 1/4 of an inch long at full adult hood and the females are larger at an inch. They are very peaceful fish and thrive in tiny tanks. I own a small colony right now in my 5 gallon. I plan on getting more soon for an outdoor container. But they do well having plants like hornwort floating on the top of the tank and they eat crushed fish flakes.

I've been intrigued by the endlers since I first read your sig :)

As I mentioned, Tanner (Rarefishatlax) sells the gold version on Aquabid and I bought some Boesemani, my Goo obos and gertrudaes from him.

I highly recommend his fish.

Endler's might fit in the tank, but they are from Venezuela and I'm pretty sure you would want a heater to keep them happy.

(and at least someone is asking for and listening to advise, I don't think anyone should get snappy)
