Good Find at Wal-Mart!

Well I'll have to check out Walmart from now on. The fish here are crazy expensive (and low quality) and maybe I can get a deal. I haven't noticed the prices though. I've only wandered by the Walmart aquariums a few time but frankly, they look much better than 2 of the 3 LFS in town.

I've always stayed away from the fish section at Walmart because of all the horror stories I've heard online.

wow u guys r lucky, seems like only thing i get for free are snails, once when i bought some plants and another time when i get some neon tetras lol,

I guess "Banded Darter" is actually the common name of a different fish. The one I have is a Banded Characidium, and I haven't been able to find any info except for a picture and brief description in my fish book. I believe "Darter Characin" may be a common name for this species, but I'm not positive. I haven't yet seen a picture of them online. There is not much information about them online apparently, unless they go by a common name I'm not aware of.

Does anyone know anything about this species?

By the way, the fish seems to be doing quite well in it's new surroundings!

petcrazy - that's it alright, thanks for the link!

Mine is slightly different than the ones in the pics in that it has an unbroken black stripe from front to back through the midsection. Probably a different subspecies. It sounds as though they are easy to breed........if I could only find a source for them I'd love to give it a try. They are a very unique fish with lots of personality. I don't usually name my fish, but have named mine "zippo" for the way he zips around from place to place.
