Good first gun?

Well, my dad says him and all his friends grew up with a .22, and he thinks for my 16th birthday, he is going to get me one

I am really excited because this will give me and my dad a chance to spend some time together.

He said I could get a shotgun or a rifle, personally, I dont want a shotgun, just because, I doubt I'd like the recoil, and like hitting targets at long range.

He says I get to choose, and it cant be very expensive, he says, to get a .22 or another size close to that.

Does anyone have any good suggestions for a gun to get? Gun uses will be primarily for target practice, plinking, and possible hunting some scavengers, squirrels, etc.

I'm accurate to 100 yards on a normal size target with a bb gun, I need something bigger

im like 95 pounds and shotgun recoil hardly affects me
