Good heater for a 75 gallon tank?

i have a 300w rena cal heater on my 75 gallon tank and i love it. my water temperature only flucuates 4 degrees. definetly go with rena cal.

Best brands by reputation (deservedly so) are Ebo Jager and Tronic (some also swear by VisiTherm). With all due respect to others who may have had good luck with them, Rena Cal heaters are usually not included on lists of most reliable heaters.

No heater is perfect or immune from failure, but if you want to play the odds, you're safest with Ebos and Tronics. Do a search for 'heater' on this board and you'll find lots of discussion of different brands.

Thanks guys.

That helped a lot!

The only heater I had before was a Plenn Plax that came with my 20 gallon.

It broke several years ago.

I now keep coldwater fish except for my tilapia.

I would recommend 2 150 watt or 200 watt ebo jagers. This is what I use on my 75 gallon tank. In the event of a failure, the other heater can "buffer" the effect of the broken one, lessening the chances of freezing your fish to death. Also, the heaters should last longer because each heater is not working as hard. Best of luck!

Ebo-Jager and Visi-Therm are the only two brands I use on all of my tanks. A 200watt with 150 for backup should be more then fine for a 75gal. Personally I have one 1 heater in my tanks smaller then 90gallons. If the heater should fail to heat the water the coolest it would get would be room temp. So it shouldnt be to bad for a few hours. At the fish shows the tanks are NOT heated they are kept at room temp.My other reason is because I dont like to see equipment in my tanks. my big tanks all have wet/dry sumps where I can hide the heaters.

I like the Ebo-Jagers..

Wish I could tell what brand to avoid.... Most seem reliable enough.
