Good kinds of filters?

you want types, like canister vs. HOB vs. in-tank,
or do you want brands and models?
I prefer canisters for ease of use and their heavy filtration abilities.. HOB's for lower flow setups in smaller tanks that dont need a big canister, and in-tank filters are great for fry tanks and vivariums..
canisters, i'm a die hard Eheim fan.. theyre expensive, but you get every penny's worth out of them.
HOB's, my personal favorite is the emperors.. a wonderfully powerful HOB that really gets the job done. I also use Whisper filters for my smaller setups, and they work great.
In-tank filters, i use Stingrays, but ironically, it is because of their low quality.. the flow is enough to supply sufficient biofiltration and circulation, but low enough that fry don't get sucked into the intake.

Agree wit jdoubler. Eheim is the best canister. I currently use canisters and hobs on my larger tanks and HOB's on my smaller tanks. I like AC's and Penguins, and for canisters I run rena's. I run a xp2 and 2 ac110 on my 75g mbuma tank. I have a xp3 on my 120 along with 2 penguin 350's. If I could do it again I would trade my penguin in for emperors. The emporer is a much better built filter and the bio-wheel is driven by a spray bar.
I have a Rena XP3 and love it. I'm getting ready to put in a Fluval 403 (need to replace the gasket first - on order) for additional filtration and water flow. This one is going to be an undergravel one and the XP3 is not.
Depends on the application. Let's narrow it to FW for starters:
Fish, Shrimp and/or plants breeding - sponge filters good for any size tank
fish/plant - canister (HOBs not as good, IMHO) for med/large tanks, requires additional sponges or netting if fry hatch
HOB, internal cartridge - good for tanks too small for canisters (20g and smaller)
Wet/Dry - they'll work, but I wouldn't go buy one for a FW tank - I'd rate them like a canister, but a lot less efficient.

We should ask the obligitory questions: how big is the tank (the 75 gal?) and what do you plan on putting in there?
i dont think there are really any bad filters out there. some are better then others but like others said it depends what kind and what your using it for. magnums rena AC are the filters i like.
So, should I do 2 30-40g Eheim's, 1 on either side, and have sand in the middle of tank, or have 1 big filter?? I like the idea of 2, what with the xtra air and even flow of the water, and it covers more surfaces...
Edit: Im planning on something like:
pair of angels
8 cherry barbs
3 female bettas (They dont go after fins, VERY peaceful)
8 white cloud mountain minnows
10 corys
30 cherry shrimp from Bill (Beviking)
3 otos
2 borneo suckers (expensive little brats!!)
3 sparkling gouramis
3 (2 females, 1 male) honey gourami
Maybe 1-2 pitbull plecos (grow 2-3")
Edit #2: I took off the pearls, but I want a smaller fish (3" and under) that will pair up, such as rams (lol, you can tell theyre my fav. fish). Should I make the honeys 1 male and 1 female, or keep it the way it is??

Is this OS?? I heard angels enjoy the flow sometimes, and the plants would help block it.
Borneo suckers are supposed to love the flow, mine doesnt...
