Good kinds of filters?

for a 75g, i would have 2 big filters.. the only reason i have just the eheim on mine is because of my extremely low bioload and the co2 injection... any other time i would have the emperor running on it as well. i like redundancy.. it means that your tank has a fail-safe if one filter decides to kick the bucket.

Currently Eheim is considered the king of the cannisters and either the Emperor or the AquaClear is the king of HOB's. That being said, I currently have a Fluval 205 on a 30-gallon tank, and I think it does a fine job. I have an xP2 on a 37-gallon tank, and I am pleased with it as well, especially for the price. I have heard good things about Marineland's new C-series cannisters. If you're flush with cash, I would get an Eheim cannister and a Rena SmartFilter for a HOB.

After using UGF, canisters, other HOBs, I ended up settling on Aquaclear power filters for all my freshwater tanks. They are easy to maintain, relatively inexpensive, last pretty much forever, and are easy to repair with readily available replacement parts. I have not found any other HOB filter able to compete with the consistent flow rate of the Aquaclear series. It really comes down to preference, but I like the easy maintenance with these.

Sorry for the bonehead question...but is ur fish list for your 70 gallon? Is that a lot of fish to be putting into a 70 gallon? I have always found that one of the best ways to keep water (and fish) happy is to slightly understock and over filter.

I am running a Megaflow III sump on my 75gal. Lets me put everything in the sump and the filitering from my new point of few seems to be great. Not sure what your price range is or space available is for your tank but my sump does great.
