Hi everyone:

Just curious if anyone from Southern CT has a favorite LFS. There are a few in my area, a couple of which were good up until recently. I can only assume they lost one or more of their "experts" that kept the store at its best.
Also, if there is one that has a nice variety of plants as well, that'd be real helpful.

Thanks! :D

Hi there. I'm down the road in Fairfield.

There's the Life Gallery on the Post Road here in Fairfield. Not the cleanest shop, but some interesting fish, and several plant tanks. (I don't have a planted tank myself, so I never looked to close at their plant stock.)

A huge PetSmart recently opened in Norwalk on the Post Road off I-95 between exits 13 & 14. Big selection of freshwater tropical fish and gold fish.
No marine. 3 large tanks with plant stock.

Other than a Petco in Norwalk(also on the Post Road), these are the places I usually hit. If you know of any new places I could try, let me know!

Hope this helps!

Thanks theuselessfew,

I have been to the Life Gallery. I am thinking of making a return trip one of these days. I wasn't crazy about the cleanliness like you said, but they have a pretty nice selection of fish and a beautiful planted tank there. I have a Petco near me and I'm not impressed with their plant selection. They have some hardworking high schoolers in there working once in awhile, and it's encouraging to see that.

I haven't been in a PetSmart yet. Norwalk is a bit of a ride, I live up near Bridgeport, but maybe someday if I'm in that area, I'll stop by.

Well alright!

The PetSmart's pretty big. One hardworking, fish-minded girl there in the fish dept, but not there every day. Forget her name. I work in Stamford, so it's kind of on my way home from work.

They have these three big tanks for plants, where the water from one cascades in to the next, and the second cascades into a third. I took note of that, because I'd never seen a commercial set-up like it. Worth a look if you're nearby.

They have that in every store... its their setup! Theres one in Monroe i forget... its one of those "nook in the wall" places... neato fish! I got my first puffers there...

Thanks guys,

I actually checked out Purr-fect Pets in Milford. For awhile there I thought they had lost some of their better employees. But this time their saltwater tank looked better, as well as their fish and plant selection. I managed to find some blue rams there (and they're actually doing well so far in the Q-tank) as well as some plants I decided to give a try.
I've purchased some fish from Petco in the past, they just seem very stressed from day one, and most of them haven't survived past the first week. No matter how careful I am, they just were tough to keep. They also have one plant tank with random species in there... hard to decide what you want if you are looking for something in particular. I have to check out those stores though, thanks guys!
