Good noob setup shopping list?!?!

I like to jsut do some reasearch on all the options and whatnots....


Personally I enjoy feedback online, but I don't think I would go as far as joining a reef club or anything like that...

So my basic suppliers lie in petsmart, petco, and online.....


If I were to get live rock and substrate online, where would you reccomend i get it?

Check www.craigslist.org
They have lots of great deals that you can find locally. Some people will even give away stuff. For example I landed about 15-20 lbs of my live rock from someone on craigslist who was giving it away for FREE!. I could have gotten more but I only had one bucket.

So since i have done some more research, i have changed up my original setup... Here is the new list...

• 30 Gal Long Tank

• 2 #1 Hydor Korialas (400gph each)
• 100 Watt Heater (none chosen so far)
• 45lb Premium Fiji Live Rock from liveaquaria.com

anyone ever bought live rock from this site??? just curious on quality/ if you guys have a better suggestion...

I want to have a premium set-up here to start so I prevent as much future upgrading as I can....

I went to the LFS today and I changed my mindset on what type of tank I would like to have...

Im definitely thinking a reef tank now... within a 29 gallon tank.. 30Lx18HX12D....


What, if any, changes would I need to make to my setup so far to accomodate this new setup..??

25x flow at a minimum, if you keep SPS you'll want even more. If you keep SPS, some LPS, clams or nems you'll want the higher output lights we talked about earlier.

at the LFS they said that 196watt satellite dual compact would work perfect in a tank of that size.... and they wouldn't break the budget....

thats 5watts per gallon...
