Thought that would catch your attention. If you look in the brackish forum, you will see "puffer debate", an arguement about the salinity of a paticular puffer. the guy I am having the argument with saw that the african lake was one place of origin. He said that the definition of brackish, was "salt added to FW". he said that includes rift lake salts, to try and win
 
Of course, the water in Lake Tanganyika has almost no sodium chloride in it. It is high in TDS (particularly magnesium chloride), that is not at all the same thing as salinity.
 
Uhmmm, Lake Malawi has only trace Na+Cl-, but Lake Tanganyika does have significant amounts, although the sodium chloride is only about a quarter of the mineral content.

Chemically, the minerals in the Rift lakes are salts. That they are not sodium chloride does not seem to get through to most hobbyists only shows that they either skipped or slept through high school chemistry. I have no PC explanation why any hobbyist would think that BW is NaCl dissolved in water.
